GRIEVANCES
Consistent with its aim to provide a high quality service to every student and with the principles of the University's Charter of Student Rights, the University welcomes students’ feedback about their University experience and provides a grievance resolution process designed to address effectively and fairly every grievance or appeal registered by a student about any aspect of that experience.
APPEALS
Appeals process in the case where there is dissatisfaction with an assessment result and/or progress status
This process applies to all students enrolled in courses of the University, other than candidates for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy and for the degree of Master by research (by thesis) encompassing:

Appeals against academic assessment;

Appeals against the award of a progress status;

Appeals against the result of an application for special consideration in relation to an individual student;

Appeals against the application of scaling or other adjustment systems; and

Appeals against non-adherence to the Assessment Mechanism Statement for the unit.
Appeals Procedure for Research Higher Degree by Thesis & PhD Preliminary Course Candidates
A Candidate who is enrolled for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy, the degree of master by research (by thesis) or in a PhD preliminary course may appeal against a decision of the Board of Graduate Research School in relation to
(a) a determination of unsatisfactory progress;
(b) classification of the thesis or other examinable work;
(c) exclusion from the course after a determination of unsatisfactory performance.

STUDENT CONDUCT
Research Ethics and Research Misconduct
Research and the pursuit of the truth are vital functions of this University. The broad principles that guide research have long been established, and central to these are the maintenance of high ethical standards, and validity and accuracy in the collection and reporting of data. The Guidelines on Research Ethics and Research Misconduct provide a framework for sound research practice and for the protection of individual research workers, including both staff and postgraduate research students, from possible misunderstandings.

Student Discipline (Misconduct)
The purpose of these regulations is to inform students of behaviour which the University regards as misconduct, to implement fair and just procedures for dealing with cases of possible misconduct and to provide for the imposition of penalties for misconduct. These regulations incorporate an appeals process.

Ethical Scholarship, Academic Literacy and Academic Misconduct
The University of Western Australia strongly supports teaching and learning taht promotes academic literacy and ethical scholarship for all staff and students. These guidelines apply to all members of the University community who believe the professional integrity of their work or study environment has been compromised by one or more persons engaging in intimidating and/or inappropriate behaviour, often known as workplace bullying. Sexual Harassment
This policy and procedures are designed to resolve complaints of sexual harassment. Sexual harassment covers a range of behaviours which constitute a verbal, visual or physical affront of a sexual nature to a person. The distinguishing characteristics of sexual harassment are that it is conduct with a sexual component which is unwelcome, unsolicited and unreciprocated.

Resolving Safety Issues
Under the University Occupational Safety and Health Policy employees, students and contractors are required to report all known or observed hazards, incidents and injuries. The Safety and Health Issue Resolution Process steps out the required escalation process to assist in resolving such issues.
